pi

Answer pi's questions and approval prompts from your iPhone.

When pi stops to ask you something, Hwip sends the question to your iPhone and types your answer back into the same tmux session.

What reaches your phone

  • Questions. pi has no MCP, so a rule in ~/.pi/agent/AGENTS.md has pi ask by running hwip ask: buttons and a text field.
  • Approval prompts. When an extension asks you to choose through ctx.ui.select, an approval gate for one, the phone shows the question and its choices. If you answer at the keyboard first, the phone's answer is refused.
  • A finished turn. A "Task done" push with the project and branch.
  • The live timeline. Prompts, tool calls and replies, read from pi's own session file.
  • Your prompts. Type a prompt on the phone, and it lands in the session as if you typed it at the keyboard.

How it is wired

hwip install adds a Hwip extension to ~/.pi/agent/extensions/hwip.ts and a rule to ~/.pi/agent/AGENTS.md. The extension handles the finished-turn push, the waiting-on-you push and remote detection. Start pi through Hwip:

hwip pi

It runs in a normal tmux session named hwip-<project>.

What a question carries

The session's git diff against HEAD and its last 60 terminal lines. Secret-looking text is masked first, best effort. Everything is sealed on your machine with AES-256-GCM before it is sent. What the server sees.

Limits

  • Subagents are view-only. A pi subagent in another pane of the same window shows up under its parent. Watch it from the phone, and answer it at the terminal.
  • tmux is required. On Windows, that means WSL.
